Our tour guides

Perfectly Accompanied

A package tour stands or falls with its tour guide – the ingredient that brings the whole travel experience to completion. A qualified guide not only has timing and organisation under control, but lets you see behind a country's facade. They bring culture, politics, society, economy, history and much more as close to you as you could never experience on your own. That is why the selection, training, further education and quality assurance of our guides carry such weight at J-Navigator.

How We Train Our Guides

  • Selected

Our tour guides are either locals or long-travelled specialists with a fitting academic background, who know their destination country as well as their own home. Many of them have lived there themselves and so have insights into culture and society that remain closed to others. They are well equipped linguistically too: most of our guides speak the local language and move through the country with ease. Our head guides, and the founder of our company, are themselves highly qualified guides with many years of experience, who know exactly what matters in selection and training.

  • Trained

Newly recruited guides go through a multi-stage selection and training process with us. After careful screening, we invite all suitable candidates to a workshop in Berlin lasting several days, to satisfy ourselves of their knowledge, commitment and ability – and to teach them the first principles of guiding. Once they have passed the personal selection round, every newcomer accompanies an experienced guide on a shadowing tour in the destination country. Only in direct contact with travel groups, and in exchange with an experienced guide, does a feel develop for guests' interests and the many dynamics within a group. Every guide goes through this process – and must convince not only us, but also the guests and the accompanying guide, of their suitability.

  • Kept up to date

Countries and cultures are in constant change. For a tour guide, what counts is therefore not only knowing when a temple was built, but also what is happening in that society right now. And even if you might expect a guide to know everything: everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. To keep our guides always up to date, we offer numerous talks, online training sessions and discussion rounds with other guides and experts.
